Commonly known as Granny's Bonnet, Columbine flowers grow naturally in meadows and woodlands, thriving in higher altitudes in the northern hemisphere. Known for their spike petals that resemble birds in flight, the word "columbine" actually means "Dove." Native Americans consumed the flowers as a condiment. Apparently, the blossoms have a very sweet taste.
