Leaves can be eaten, but the root is by far the most popular part of the vegetable. The root can be baked, roasted, or boiled; it can even be eaten fresh and put in salads if sliced very thin. Often it Rutabaga is sliced into cubes and incorporated with boiling carrots or potatoes.
